Help Protect NYC's Community Gardens!

Did you know that the law protecting NYC's community gardens from being taken over by developers is about to expire?

City officials are working on new rules to protect the gardens, but unless we speak up, those rules may not be strong enough.

I just signed this petition calling on Mayor Bloomberg and City officials to make sure that the new rules PERMANENTLY PROTECT our community gardens from development. Can you take a moment to sign, too?

New Bike-Friendly changes coming to Queens Plaza!

I'm all too happy to post that Queens Plaza will soon be a much better place for bikers and pedestrians! Javier and I prefer to get around by bike whenever we can, especially for local trips in Queens. Glad to see they're doing something about the crazy quagmire that is Queens Plaza!

Lemon Power!

One of my favorite cleaning supplies is so healthy you can eat it, lemon juice!

Some of it's handy attributes are: antibacterial, antiseptic qualities, and being a great deodorizer, just to name a few.

Many scientific studies have shown that the scent of lemon improves people's moods. Try squeezing a bit of lemon into a spray bottle with water and use it as an uplifting air freshener! It also works great for polishing metals such as chrome and brass.

The JC Report had an interesting article today about beauty products and perfumes made from citrus.

What are your favorite uses for lemon juice? Feel free to comment.

Welcome! :)

Hello and thanks for stopping by! I'm Steph of Steph & Javier's Green House Cleaning. We clean houses using eco-friendly supplies and methods. I'll be posting cleaning tips and thoughts on living an environmentally conscious lifestyle, especially in Queens, NY. And Javier will be making some cameos! ;)

I'd like to tell you a bit about ourselves and what we do. We've lived in the New York City area for about 7 years and about 1 1/2 years ago we moved to Queens. We love it! We love the amazing diversity, the fact that a lot of our good friends live right close by, and of course the food!

Around the same time we moved I started working as an assistant house cleaner for Plain Jane's, a top-notch eco-friendly house cleaning company located in Brooklyn. I learned the ropes and continue to work for several loyal clients in the Park Slope area, and help out with Plain Jane's as needed.

Most recently my fiance Javier has come on board as an assistant cleaner for homes in the Queens area. As a team we can clean houses just as meticulously but in half the time, which is often more convenient for our clients.

Here's a quick run down of the supplies and methods we use. We're all about using reusable microfiber cloths and mop pads rather than disposable paper towels etc. We also mix our own eco-friendly cleaners using ingredients such as lemon juice and essential oils. I'll get into a lot more detail on these topics in upcoming posts so keep an eye out!
